In 2007, the company was purchased by Stephen Cortner. His goal was to provide the best customer service in the pool industry. His motto was “White collar service in a blue collar industry”.
Steve started by purchasing Sweetwater because it had a very good reputation in the customer’s back yards. Then he created a customer service team in the office that was always available by phone to make sure the customers always got the answers and services they wanted on a timely basis. Today, Sweetwater Pool Service is a dominant force in the Boston area pool service business with an outstanding reputation for customer service.
After 12 years of successfully growing Sweetwater Pool Service, Steve found a second company on the North Shore that needed his customer service touch. He purchased Associated Pool of Woburn in 2019. Like Sweetwater in 2007, Associated Pool had a great reputation in the customer’s back yards, but the office procedures needed attention. Today, most of Associated Pool’s customers are still with Sweetwater along with many new customers who are very pleased with the improved customer service. The Associated Pool founders and most of their staff are also still working for Sweetwater today.

Steve worked for 20 years in the high-tech business of Intel Corporation before pursuing his passion of providing the best customer service in the pool industry. During his life prior to Sweetwater, Steve experienced many talented businesses that were good at their trade, but terrible at staying in touch with customers, and pool companies were no exception. This is what motivated Steve to create a company that was great at its trade and great at taking care of the customer.

Today, Steve has created a company culture that follows his lead. All employees from the office to the field are passionate about doing the right things for the customer. Steve also incentivizes his whole staff by increasing responsibility for those who succeed. He has also created a profit sharing plan for the majority of employees. That is unheard of in the pool service world, but that is how Steve keeps the Sweetwater Pool staff happy, and in return, the staff keeps their customers happy.
